64. Before Completion – The Gate of Confusion

The Mental Gift Of Enjoying The Confusion And Its Diversity Of Data.

Gate 64, known as Before Completion and the Gate of Confusion, is a mental pressure mechanism located in the Head Center within the Collective Abstract (Sensing) Circuit. Its core function is Experiential Recall Before Completion, supplying the pressurized “raw material” of mental imagery, fragments of memories, and symbolic impressions from past experiences that have not yet reached realization. Mechanically, it initiates the abstract mental process by forcing the mind to reflect on “what happened,” recycling visual data that requires later processing through its harmonic partner, Gate 47.

Gate 64, “Before Completion,” represents the pressure of mental activity without the power to act. It is the gate of confusion, where past experiences cycle through the mind, creating a stream of jumbled images. This mental pressure exists to help us make sense of the past and project into the future but lacks inherent authority. When the mind tries to control life, it leads to stress and discomfort. However, when true inner authority guides us, the mind becomes an observer rather than a ruler, allowing clarity to emerge over time through reflection and experience.

The Mechanics of Abstract Pressure

  • Mental Activity: Gate 64 is the fuel behind a constant flow of data that recycles through the mind, often making it the busiest of all mental gates.
  •
  • Retrospective Orientation: Unlike logical gates that look to the future, Gate 64 is entirely focused on the past, sorting through the “muddle of experience” to eventually find its meaning.
  •
  • The Internal Camera: Biologically, this gate is associated with the deep gray areas of the brain that store visual memory sequences, operating like a camera that has recorded every inch of life’s footage.
  •
  • Nature of Confusion: Confusion here is not a failure or a flaw; it is the mechanically correct starting condition for the abstract process. Realization is only possible after the images have been allowed to cycle and order themselves naturally over time.

Gates of the Quarter of Duality

The Quarter of Duality is the third quadrant of the Mandala, characterized by the mystical theme “Measure for Measure.”Within this quadrant, purpose is fulfilled through Bonding, marking the stage where life moves beyond personal conceptualization and physical construction to meet the mechanical necessity of the other. It is often described as the most mundane—and most intimately human—of the four quarters, as it centers on crossing the boundary of individual separateness to engage in the realities of relationship and co-creation.

Mechanically, this quarter governs the genetic imperative to reproduce and replicate the species. Through bonding, intimacy, and alliance, it ensures humanity’s continuity by guiding individuals toward viable partnerships and supportive social structures.

This quadrant is anchored by the Channel of Discovery (29–46) and the Channel of Mating (59–6), and it contains all seven gates of the Spleen Center, which supply the instinctive survival intelligence required to form and maintain these bonds. The relational and protective nature of this quarter can be seen through the following examples:

  • Gate 7 (The Army): Defines the role of the self within interaction, providing leadership and logical direction that guide the collective toward a secure future.
  • Gate 59 (The Gate of Sexuality): Known as the “aura breaker,” this gate delivers the mechanical force that dissolves boundaries and resistance, enabling the intimacy required for fertile connection.
  • Gate 44 (The Gate of Alertness): Operates through instinctive memory to recognize past patterns, supporting tribal survival by discerning who can be trusted in material or relational alliances.
  • Gate 29 (The Gate of Perseverance): Supplies the stamina and commitment to say “yes” to an experience and remain engaged until full discovery and bonding are achieved.

Ultimately, the Quarter of Duality teaches that human well-being is realized not in isolation, but within a social context. Through relationship, support, and intimacy, the individual aligns with the forces necessary for survival, continuity, and shared evolution.
