The mechanics
Gate 18 is in the Spleen, in the Collective Understanding circuit, and it is the Spleen end of 18-58, Judgment, the design of insatiability. Ra called it the place of salt in the body, and the gate where we receive our deepest conditioning from our parents: a woman by her father, a man by his mother. The Oedipus and Electra gate, and he said that is not a negative. It is where we learn generationally.
Its fear is the fear of authority, and the first authorities anyone meets are their parents. Ra's heading above the lines is about vigilance in defending fundamental human rights, and his joke was about the people with the 18 who told him he should not smoke. You mean that is true for everybody on earth? Yes. That is collective correction.

The Sun completes 18-58 for you.
If you have Gate 58 defined in your Root, the Sun completes the 18-58 channel for you until Friday. You get a temporary Spleen-to-Root definition and the whole channel of Judgment with it: the joy of finding what is wrong and the drive to make it right. Watch whether the correction is aimed at a pattern or at a person.
The Earth completes 17-62.
If you carry Gate 62, the Earth completes 17-62, Acceptance, on the other side. Your opinion will want its facts, and it will want to be said.
If you have neither, this is a conditioning field. Dissatisfaction is in the air, and an open Spleen will feel everything as slightly wrong and want to fix it.

What to watch, not what to do
Ra's rule for any collective gate: do not take it personally. People with the 18 hear "you did a wonderful job" and answer with what they could have done better, and it is a process, not a judgment of the person. The Definitive Book adds that this gate is designed for correction at the collective level, and used on people's foibles it backfires. Whether you say the correction out loud is for Strategy and Authority.
The uncomfortable part
Ra said the keyword for this gate is what is vital or not: if the correction will not bring a sense of value, leave it alone. This week the field is full of people improving each other.
